This is a dear wedding to me.
First of all, Samantha and Ryan are dear friends. I met the two of them before they began to date – back at camp in 2006 where he was relentless about flirting with her and she said “No, he doesn’t like me” in response. None of us were surprised when they showed up the next summer dating.
Sam took a year’s break from camp after that, but it was a joy to me to be able to work with both her and Ryan last year. She was a dear confidant and supporter and hanging out with the two of them on the weekends was the highlight of my summer. So clearly I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding.
Second, it was a beautiful place. Hodgin Valley Farm was one of my favorite farms I’ve been on. Filled with old buildings and beautiful fields, I could have shot there all day. We were able to spend the night there before the wedding and our room in the house was wonderful!
Third, it was an adventure. Having an outdoor wedding meant that Sam and Ryan had to decide whether or not to brave the rain. If you know them at all you know that they are adventurous to the core, and they decided to not let a little drizzle stop them from getting married outside. Luckily they had a fantastic wedding planner in Sue McCain of Bella Wedding and Event Planning. She and her team did a wonderful job of moving things around (and NOT moving things around) in order to make a wonderful day for Sam and Ryan.
Fourth, it was such a fun wedding. At the reception, the food was delicious and the band, The Hush Puppies, kept everyone entertained. There was even contra dancing!
Fifth, I had a fantastic second shooter by my side. Anna Carol did a wonderful job and I had so much fun shooting with her. The pictures that she took are marked by two asterisks**. :)

I loved it so much I couldn’t narrow them down for just one post. So please, enjoy!

Gerrald Wedding

June 28, 2010

A few months ago I had the privilege of second shooting again for Allison Elizabeth Photography. This time, the wedding was in the beautiful Daniel Chapel on Furman University’s campus. Caitlin and Will’s day was full of sweet love and joy and beautiful, beautiful music. I was very excited to shoot with Allison again. The beautiful late night reception was held at The Sawmill at North Main in Greenville, and the food there was fantastic!

Tim and Laurel

June 23, 2010

Tim and Laurel have been in love for a long time. Well, let me correct that. Tim has been in love with Laurel for a long time. I entered college in the same class as Laurel and even though we weren’t close friends, it became very apparent that a senior like Tim didn’t just hang around freshman girls because he didn’t have any other friends. He was on a mission. It also became very evident that the goal of his mission was one girl: Laurel. Pretty soon (but probably not soon enough for his eager heart), she was his.
Now, this unlikely duo of a girl from Virginia and a French boy (who somehow is English?) are getting married, a fitting end to a story that began at Columbia International University.
The setting should look familiar – Tim and Laurel spent a lot of time at the Horseshoe and wanted to get pictures at a place where their love grew so much.

Fornadel Wedding

June 15, 2010

This past weekend I had the enormous privilege of second shooting for Allison Elizabeth Photography. Allison is a wonderful photographer based out of Greenville, SC and her work is fantastic. The wedding was not only one of the most beautiful I’ve ever been to, but also one of the most FUN. After the reception finished up with tons of dancing at the Duncan Estate, the party continued with an afterparty! Molly and Joe were serious about their dancing. :)
It was a joy to shoot with Allison and such a delightful day to be a part of!

Isn’t the Duncan Estate gorgeous?

(This is Molly’s younger brother, who was one of the groomsmen)

Some of the super-awesome bridesmaids for helped me get these last two shots. :)

Cole and Amanda

June 12, 2010

Cole and Amanda discovered snixie photography through Jay and Joy – they were friends with Jay in high school and decided they wanted some engagement pictures. We had a wonderful time exploring new areas of downtown. They’re getting married in March of next year and it was a joy to spend two days with them shooting!

Strobolakos Wedding

June 11, 2010

Back in January Dave and Judy got married on a bitterly cold day. They were troopers that day and have been incredibly patient in waiting for their photos as I went student teaching. These are my favorites from their day. :)

You might remember Jay and Joy. They’re now engaged. :)

My favorite. :)

Oh hey bling, hey. ;)

Other favorite.

Congratulations Jay and Joy!

Colin and Rachel

April 3, 2010

If you know anything about snixie photography, you know that Colin and Rachel are vital to my entrance into couple’s photography, and played a huge role in “snixie photography” itself beginning. It has been a delight to watch their love bloom and blossom from dating, to engagement, and now to marriage. It was a privilege to me to be one of Rachel’s bridesmaids, and I am so grateful to have the two of them in my life.

Before I left for student teaching, we met up for a quick (and I do mean quick) shoot in a field here in Columbia. Here are a few of my favorite shots!

Third Day

March 1, 2010

I’ve met two people in my life that have the kind of joy Paul talks about “overflowing” in 2 Corinthians 8:2. One of them was a wonderful man named Enrique who lives in a tiny mountain village in the Dominican Republic, without electricity or other conveniences we take for granted. His face radiated joy.

The other is a friend I just had the privilege of meeting. Her name is Eve, and we met last weekend.
You see, I drove from a teacher workday on Friday back to Columbia so I could go see Third Day, my favorite band, at the WinterJam tour. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the guys, and it was a much needed time of encouragement.

I only had my 50mm, so these are just a few shots of the concert I got. :)

And here’s a video of Mac singing Love Song, per “request”. (All I’m saying is that it took 2 years of asking and 14 signs before they played mine…)

Afterward, I went to the WIRED Meet and Greet. While waiting with the other fans to go back, Eve came and sat next to me. She and I began talking about how many times we’ve seen them, our favorite songs, and other things like that. It turns out that the WIRED M&G is a present from her sister. You see, Eve is a huge Third Day fan (and I don’t say that lightly) who has been battling cancer for awhile. Throughout her journey Third Day’s music has been what’s encouraging her. Some of her favorites that she mentioned were Mountain of God, God of Wonders, and well, pretty much all the others. The Lord has used Third Day to strengthen her and focus her heart.
Eve was most excited about being able to meet the guys and tell them her story before the Lord calls her home, which will be soon.
As she shared this with me, the joy radiating on her face reminded me of Enrique. She was a living example of James 1:2, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds”. I knew that meeting her was absolutely God’s orchestration. I wanted to spend as much time with her as I could, so I asked if I could take some pictures of her meeting the guys. She graciously allowed me to do so.
Here are a few of them.

First, some of Mark and David (who were closest to us) meeting other humans.

Finally, David was the first to come to us.

Sweet, sweet Eve.

David signing Eve’s Bible. :)

And Mac came next.

Sweet hugs after telling her story.

Talking with Tai.

And I only got 3 or so with Mark because it was time to take pictures. This was the only one in focus.

To Third Day, thank you for being a great band to follow all these years. I’ve not found another favorite. ;)
To Eve, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you. I am so excited that not only were we able to spend that evening together, but we’ll get to spend eternity together. I’m excited to recognize you in heaven and rejoice together that we’re with Jesus.
Much love to you (and everyone else!),

Dittmar Wedding

February 22, 2010

You remember Tyler and Alma? Well, at least you remember Alma from her bridal shoot.

They got married in January, and it was a wedding like no other. This was not in small part because in the middle of the ceremony, one of their groomsmen fainted! It turns out he just locked his knees and so he passed out, but it definitely made for an exciting moment. After the ceremony Alma remarked that him fainting made everything better for her, because she knew she couldn’t do anything worse than that!

I am so excited to be able to share these with you. I hope that the sweetness of their love is evident.

Tyler and Alma, many congratulations on your marriage, and thanks for the privilege of shooting your wedding!
